Classic 1176 FET comp in a 500 series format.

The SA-76D-5 is the most authentic and accurate reproduction of the iconic UREI 1176 Rev D available today in a convenient 500 series format.

Unlike any other replica on the market the Stam Audio 76-5 A, D and F revision use a Sowter input transformer which are identical sounding replicas of the original and unobtainable UTC 0-12 transformer. We also use a custom US-made 5002 output transformer that precisely matches the low end and top end found on the old ones.

With a fully discrete signal path following the original schematic, and by using premium components (the same as found on the old UREI’s) we have managed to impart the original tone and character of these legendary compressors.

Vishay capacitors, 1% metal film resistors and hand selected transistors are the icing on the cake that guarantee that each you receive will be  the absolute best sounding 1176 we could possibly make.

Just like the original 1176 the ratios of 4, 8, 12 and 20 are there, as well as the “all buttons in” mode for 100% stun. Adjustable input, output, attack, and release as well as a Dry-Wet blend control!

Each unit is hand made at our lab in Chile and comes with a 2 year warranty.

100% satisfaction guarantee – if you don’t love your SA-76D-5 we’ll refund you

I bought the SA-76D-5 a while ago, and I have to tell you guys. This thing rocks!! It does everything you need from an 1176 and also has its own attitude along with it. I honestly couldn’t be happier with it.

I LOVE the work you guys do. You can see the passion in every product and that translates in to me when I use it. Once I have enough saved I will be 100% buying more of your products. Thanks for holding the torch in analogue and moving it forward. Can’t wait to see what you do next.

it’s a must have! Absolutely a must have,
You can’t beat an 1176, it’s just an essential part of any studio project for all the obvious reasons, and having the Rev D is a the much needed go to for many sources, since it combines both worlds, of the aggressive resolute approach of a 76, but with the clean and “respectful” approach that the Rev D brings, which is essential for many projects!
I’ve got a SA-76A which is so iconic and well made, and was very happy to also get a SA-76D which ended up being my go to for tracking vocals most of the time.
Thanks to Stam for suggesting it to me and for making a great unity. Very well made, sound character is great and it’s the closest thing to a 76 vintage original you can get on 500 series. For this price, it’s a no brainer!

I’ve always loved the sound of 1176-style compressors but didn’t have enough rackspace for a full-size unit. Luckily, I had one open slot in my 500 series rack and with limited 500 series options out there, I turned to Stam Audio.

From the moment I plugged in the Stam 76D, I was blown away.

On vocals, it immediately brought them to the front of the mix, especially lifting the upper-mids in a really musical way. On acoustic guitars, it added the same kind of presence, but with a nice added weight in the low-mids. Pairing it with my UA LA-610 MkII (compressor bypassed) on bass guitar, it fattened the lows without sacrificing midrange clarity, helping the bass cut through the mix beautifully.

If you’re tight on space or budget but still want that classic 76-style compression, I highly recommend this unit. It’s a killer option that doesn’t compromise on tone.

The SA-76D-5 really delivers – the compression, speed, and overall “squeeze” feel virtually identical to a UA 1176 Blackface. The only noticeable difference is that the UA has a bit more coloration, while the Stam runs slightly cleaner. Considering the price and the fact that it’s in 500-series format, it’s a complete no-brainer.

I’ve compared it to the Serpent Splice, and I still prefer the Stam. It sits perfectly on vocals, adding presence and control. This is the compressor you want in your vocal chain. Great unit.

  5. Bradley Schultz

Just absolutely stellar sounding compressor on Vocals, kick and snare busses or probably anything else. Its more aggressive than some 1176 clones I’ve used. The blend knob is beautiful. Way more musical than any plugin emulation.
