Stam Audio was founded in 2014 by Joshua van der Stam in Chile with the goal of creating the most accurate-sounding replicas of vintage audio gear at any price point. Since the beginning of the replica revolution, we’ve known that manufacturers all had access to the same circuits and schematics, so the distinction would come down to the careful selection of components and their interactions with each other.

We began our quest by testing every single configuration possible until finding the right tubes, capsules, transformers, and capacitors for each one of our products. Despite our armada of metering tools, we’ve prioritized our ears as the ultimate metric when choosing each part. Using this approach, we’ve discovered that using the exact same values as the original units simply would not work. Today’s components are not made the same way as they were 40 or 50 years ago, they have improved dramatically. They sound cleaner, with less total harmonic distortion (THD) and lower tolerances. We take this into account when designing analog hardware, measuring every single component on the circuit we clone, right down the tolerance of every resistor, transistor and capacitor to deliver the same audio fingerprint of the originals.

We’re analog biologists, dissecting and rebuilding classic hardware to discover the heart of the machine, so we can create our own 1:1 replica. We outsource the manufacturing of custom transformers in the US and EU, precisely matching the original THD and frequency responses using different metals to replicate the exact sonic signature used on hit records for the past 50+ years.

We don’t just replicate vintage gear, we aim to replicate down to the very last component. This is our core philosophy and the guiding light of all our designs, but we don’t stop there. Our hardware revisions are constantly evolving, we augment the classics while never compromising on our mission to deliver the most faithful-sounding analog replicas possible. This holistic approach to quantifying every last component gives us the flexibility to experiment while being able to surgically track down any deviation from the beautiful Stam Audio sound our products are known for. If it doesn’t sound perfect, it doesn’t make the cut. That is our difference.

After years of R&D and testing, we had a roster of designs ready to unleash on the world. It then dawned on us that if we ordered everything in large batches with a pre-order system, and sold directly to our clients without retailers, we could offer a vastly superior product at a price point more aggressive than any competitor.

It worked.

We quickly became a top-selling audio manufacturer and then came the tremendous challenge of turning a one-man show into a fully developed professional team to meet the requirements of our customers, demand, and engineering.

With the expertise acquired creating vintage replicas and a solid team of engineers and producers with some of the best ears in the business, Stam Audio has managed to earn the reputation of providing the best value for money on the market, while at the same time producing the world’s most accurate replicas.

Today Stam Audio has sold over 25,000 pieces of hardware and microphones and continues to recreate vintage pieces as well as fusions of multiple classic designs into one hardware unit. We use an innovative proprietary switching relay design that allows us to offer three independent compressors in one box, such as the SA76ADF, SA23A+ and SA-3A Plus.

This strategy of constantly pushing the envelope remains the driving force behind the most successful launches of our company until today.

For 2024 an entire line of original products is being developed with the intention to offer something fresh and improved on the old classical designs to widen the palate of colors for our clients.

Welcome to the Stam Audio family.
