Stereo Pultec with mid-band and both Tube and Solid State output stages.
The MEQP-1AS+ is a stereo, fully stepped 1:1 replica of the two most beloved tube equalizers in history, the Pultec EQP-1A and the EQP-1A3-SS. It also includes the mid band from the Pultec MEQ-5 with both boost and cut options.
Unlike the standard MEQP-1AS, the plus version comes with two output stages which are selectable on the unit’s faceplate allowing you to choose from both the famous solid state EQP-1A3-SS and the traditional tube EQP1-A packing all four EQP1-A, EQP-1A3-SS, MEQ-5 and the MEQ-5-SS into a single 3U unit.
After retiring the MK1 in 2019 we spent the last few years developing new custom-made input, inter-stage and output transformers, as well as accurate Inductors to bring this unit back to life sounding as close to a vintage Pultec as possible.
The MEQP-1AS+ uses 4 Sowter audio transformers, two Moby output transformers and two “A” style custom made in the US output transformers on the solid state section. It also includes six tubes including two 6X4 tube on the power supply famous for its “sag” on these units and two SA-2520 Op Amps. Each unit comes with 8 transformers, 6 tubes and 4 2520 Op Amps.
Sowter and Moby transformers far exceed any other offering available in the market when it comes to matching the low end, sonic timbre and the unique frequency response found on the original units.
Aside from making an exact sounding replica affordable, we also wanted to make it size friendly and therefore decided to make a stereo unit in the same 3U classic faceplate with stereo controls. All switches are matched within a 0.1% tolerance and all tubes are matched for perfect stereo operation with fully stepped switches.
The MEQP-1AS+ is built with premium components
Utilizing custom Sowter UK Transformers, premium Carnhill Inductors, NOS tubes, Fully Stepped controls, Corner Dubillier Capacitors and Allen Bradley Carbon Resistors we have paid tribute to this legend and believe it to be the most accurate and best sounding recreation made today.
Each unit is handmade in Chile by us with great care and detail and goes through a 72 hour burn making sure these units will perform flawlessly for many years to come

This piece of equipment is pure gold, it puts that magical sprinkle on anything you patch it through. Use it with Stamchild on your mastering link and you will be in heaven. Now I need to remaster all my works again!

I ordered the MEQP-1AS+ when it was just the EQP-1AS+. It’s been a long time coming, but having finally received my unit and gotten some time in on it I can now say that it was worth the wait. This is the perfect mix bus or mastering equalizer for gentle shaping. Tube Pultecs can be a bit too soft on some material. Solid state Pultecs sometimes aren’t soft enough to really make something sit down and relax. Having access to fantastic sounding implementations of both available at the flip of a switch makes this so much more flexible in use. The addition of the mid band takes this thing even further in a mastering context, with the ability to do some great sounding subtle (or not so subtle) shaping of the mids. I’m excited to take it for a spin in a stereo recording context, like drum overheads. To make a long story short – this is the unit I always wished I could have on my mix bus. It never existed. It probably shouldn’t exist. It does exist though, and I’m incredibly happy to have it in the rack.

Fantastic EQ for 2-bus, exactly what is expected from fine Stam gear ay its best. Enhanced functionality of this stereo eq makes it no brainer choice for pro studio.

This is the EQ I’d wished existed for quite a long time, and now it does. It’s an absolute monster of a mix bus EQ – the switchable output topologies (tube and solid state) make it so much more flexible for different genres and styles than any other Pultec-style EQ you can buy.

Two and a half years ago I ordered an SA-23A that was “in stock for immediate delivery”. To cut a very, very long story short, that particular unit failed to materialise and having switched my order to something I understood was more likely to be built in my lifetime, today I finally received this Stereo Pultech. FedEx could not be faulted, it was packed in enough bubble wrap that a competent tailor could make me an extremely uncomfortable and impractical suit. On opening the box, I could see immediately that the unit is superbly well built, not to mention satisfyingly heavy, and after a cup of tea and an hour of just admiring the thing, I plugged it into my 2 buss. (This Pultech > Stam SSL 4000 buss comp > Manley Vari Mu)
It sounds, to my ear, at least as good as an original Pultech. It adds warmth and weight, though it retains clarity. Among hardware EQs it is outstanding, next to a plug in, it’s like watching a fight between Mike Tyson and Norman Wisdom. The mid band is incredibly useful, and the option to switch between tube and solid state options is a God-send. The knobs and switches have a quality feel, as a replica it looks, feels, and sounds the part.
Now, it’s taken forever to arrive, and I sense that the replies to my emails were often optimistic at best, half truths and excuses at worst, but a lot can be forgiven when you listen to the quality of this thing, especially when you consider that it’s a fraction of the price of a ‘real’ one, and with a ton of extra features. Clearly, these things are born of passion and I can understand that the desire to innovate is a lot more of a motivation than necessarily focussing on an unimpeachable business model. The experience of ordering, then waiting for this length of time was, I will be honest, not good (nor, I gather from the internet, unique). However, the unit itself, like all my other Stam gear (mostly purchased second hand while I’ve been waiting) is absolutely superb. They say “Fast, Cheap, Good – pick any two” and this is both excellent value, and truly extraordinary quality. While I’m still not exactly thrilled by the purchase process, the unit itself is absolutely beyond reproach and I know it will be used on every session from now on. On balance, I’m delighted, and very excited to finally have it, hence a 5 star review. A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

Amazing- absolutely amazing. Totally worth it. The build is top notch, the sound is outlandishly good. So many options and features to get the work done and move on in an instant. This thing does the job, highly recommend.

The MEQP-1AS+ — Stereo Analog Tube Equalizer, although it is a replica of the original Pultec Equalizer, this Stam Audio Engineering version belongs to its own league with its flexibility power sweetness based on Tube/SS feature, and its stereo processing capability. Today, no other Pultec Equalizer on market is capable of delivery to audio professionals what the Stam Audio Engineering have done. You have a winner. Bravo Joshua Stam!

So, I really wanted to soak this one in before my review. In a word, it’s Mind-Blowing! Okay, that was two. This device is phenomenal in its abilities. I consistently struggle to choose which circuit to use—the SS or the Tube. It is like having four different Pultec EQs in one. Joshua, I know I told you you are a genius with the StamChild. However, this EQ has taken the throne. In my last mix, I used the MEQP-1AS+ on six different tracks in six ways. Stam, you have definitely sealed the deal with me.
Oh, my fellow engineer in the next room is also ordering one.
Blessed, Zyon Odinson
