Introducing the Stam Audio SA-76F+
With a fully discrete signal path, custom Sowter input transformer and Carnhill output transformer as well as a tube with blend control and a dry/wet knob we are happy to declare the SA-76F+ not only the most accurate replica of the vintage UREI 1176 Rev F on the market, but also the most exciting and versatile one. Despite claiming otherwise no other transformer in the market replicas the UTC O-12 as accurately as the Sowter 1260F which is custom-made for us in the UK. The original B11148 output transformer is matched precisely by the Carnhill VTB11148 (they even share the same name).
Hand-made with great attention to detail and calibrated to perform identical to an original UREI 1176, the SA-76F+ is build one by one at our lab in Chile by our small team of engineers, we pride ourselves in delivering the most authentic and accurate reproduction made today of this beloved compressor while incorporating several modern features, while keeping it affordable for our users. With so many manufacturers recreating this classic unit, we decided to step up our game and offer a truly unique 1176 without sacrificing the classic tone and operation of the original unit. We did this by adding a tube with a blend control which turns this 1176 into a tube 1176, taking this classic compressor to a whole new level.
A Tube 1176
Unlike any other replica currently made, the SA-76F+ has a built-in tube which can be added into the circuit with a blend control potentiometer. The tube a NOS ECC88 valve which enchances the top end and harmonic content allowing this unit go from 0.25% THD all the way up to 1.5%. With the tube stage now being fully variable, SA-76F+ users can now decide how much of it is present in the signal, giving you an array of colors to choose from. The classic 1176 Rev F, a tube 1176 Rev F and everything in between.
New Features
The SA-76F+ also comes with a unity gain calibrated dry-wet blend control and the same super slow attack mod found on the SA-76 ADG, which is ideal for recording and mixing kicks and bass guitars.
Audio Transformers and Capacitors
Audio transformers are the single most important part in reproducing a vintage unit’s unique timbre, tone and frequency response. At the Stam Audio Lab we have auditioned every single one of them and we can confidently say that the SA-76F+ features a Sowter 1260 input transformer, which is an identical replica of the original UTC O-12 (Ratio 1:1.58 200/500 Ohms) and a Carnhill output transformer that precisely match the ratio and frequency response of the original B11148.
We have made no compromise in parts such as Vishay capacitors, quality resistors and matched, selected transistors to ensure you will get the best sounding unit without cutting any corners. All SA-76F+ units are hand-made and calibrated in our workshop in Chile, where they get a full quality check and 48-hour burn.
