Classic American sound.

The 312-5T is famously known in the recording world as a “turbo API”. It consists for a tube 312 preamp which retains the aggressive character of the original but adds further harmonic distortion and coloration with the aid of a tube output stage followed by an LA-2A style 5:1 output transformer.

The 312-5T is built with premium components

The US made 1:8 input transformer and Chilean hand made SA-2520 op amp are exact replicas of those found in an original 312 preamplifier from the 70’s and have been carefully auditioned to impart the same character and punch that these units are known for. The output transformer is custom made in Europe and all tubes are auditioned and selected. The 312-5T also features Stam aluminum knob made in the EU.

Sometimes strict adherence to an original design is absolutely called for, but sometimes an updated and improved version with the same great sound but more flexibility is just what a modern engineer or mixer needs. This results in the classic 312 sound but with a higher THD and bigger low end. The 312-5T is ideal for users looking to record electric guitars, drums, and hard vocals.

    WOW. ….just. WOW.

Having owned & used almost every conceivable preamp flavor/color, topology & circuit; I can say with absolute authority that the 312-5T brings something wholly different to my sonic palette. I wouldn’t have EVER thought to add a TUBE to an API-styled circuit but GOODNESS, why didn’t anyone do this sooner???

The sound is reminiscent of a vintage API module – BUT – it’s low-end blooms in a much larger way (without ever getting tubby), the midrange is VERY modern API (but…..smoother perhaps?) and the high-end….. WOW. The high-end on this preamp is absolutely bonkers. It’s WIDE, SMOOTH and BRILLIANT at the SAME time.

The level of detail is staggering; the way it handles transients is glorious and imparts an extremely euphonic “rounding” to very strong percussive material; WITHOUT taking away the source energy or “life-force”. Is that a thing? 😜

I don’t know what else to say other than: I wish Stam Audio would have come out with this 10 years ago 😂😂😂

Do yourself, your clients and your sources a favor and pick one of these up ASAP. No brainer purchase; no matter the price!

I’m absolutely blown away by this one! I was already a big fan of the 312-5 preamp, but the tube version is even better sounding. Bigger, tighter midrange and it’s actually more quiet than some solid state preamps I use. My guitars sound more rich and more refined and seem to fit any mix with more ease without additional processing. I bought this one for guitars mainly, but can’t wait to try it on other sources as well. A job well done!
